The paper considers operating algorithms for a precipitation sensor designed to detect snow and ice on railway infrastructure elements. Purpose: to develop, describe and implement in software the operating algorithms of a precipitation sensor for automatic heating systems of railway turnouts. Methods: the algorithms are based on differential analysis of temperature signals from two sensing elements using a sliding filtering window. Results: an intelligent precipitation detection algorithm with dynamic parameter configuration has been developed. The principles of generating control signals, interaction with the automatic heating system for railway turnouts, and software implementation of the algorithms on microcontroller-based hardware using an SD card and a real-time clock are described. Practical significance: the proposed technical solution can be implemented at infrastructure facilities and will make it possible to reduce the energy consumption of heating systems by minimizing false alarms.
