The article examines the relationship between innovation and tradition in the development of higher education in transport and describes the dangers of unreflected implementation of technical discoveries in the pedagogical process. The article analyzes the positive significance of traditions based on the fundamental scientific and pedagogical experience of the Institute of the Corps of Railway Engineers. The outstanding contribution of Augustin Betancourt in the creation of promising traditions of technical education is highlighted.
