Annotation:
The paper presents an analysis of failures of railway automation and remote control devices of the JSC “Uzbekistan temir yullari” (Uzbekistan Railways) from atmospheric and switching overvoltages for the period 2014-2018. It has been determined that the largest number of failures of railway automation and remote control devices is associated with a thunderstorm period. Hardware failures account for 22% in the total number of failures of railway automation and remote control devices. Failures of signalization, interlocking and blocking devices along the signaling and communication distances of JSC “Uzbekistan Railways” are not evenly dis-tributed. The greatest number of failures occurs at distances located in desert, steppe regions and in the zone of large rivers. Electric interlocking and numeric code automatic block systems are the systems of railway automation and remote control falling into group A of the Pareto diagram by the number of failures from atmospheric overvoltages. It was determined that a large number of failures occur in surge protection devices used in operation.
